2K Upgrade Stalls

HELP! I tried to upgrade my Dell P3 last night from Windows 98. THe install proceeded
fine until the very end (some 2.5 hours later). During the final actions, when the
machine was working on registering programs, it hangs...I let it run literally all
night and it was still at the same spot when I woke up in the morning. A re-boot
simply puts me at the same place.
How do I get past this barrier?
