DEX, Just to let you know... I have now updated the Plextor 712A DVD's "firmware" to the latest version. Unfortunately, my computer system still exhibits the same fatal Win2000 startup problem. Next, I'm going to substitute a Sony DVD for the Plextor and see if this solves the puzzle. Thanks again for your help. Erin
