If you can't get the cd to boot use this work around.
Download winME boot disk from:bootdisk.com
Run the file you downloaded and it will make a boot disk for you.
Then reboot the machine with it.
When you see the A: type Fdisk
REMOVE ALL the partitions (ALL OF THEM)
Then make a new one, at that point the machine will reboot.
Then when you see the A: type format c: /s
When it's done with the format reboot.
Then when you see the item called Used CD Rom Support select it..
Then when you see the A: put your win2k cd in the rom drive.
Then cd to the rom ( x: ) X is your cd rom drive.
Then type cd i386
You should see X:\i386
Now type winnt32
And win2k will now install..
---------------
You can also copy the i386 folder from the win2k cd to the HD,,,(this will help speed
up the install of win2k and you have a backup copy of it on the HD)
-----------------------
cd to the C: drive
At the C: type md ntsetup
Then type cd ntsetup
You should see C:\>ntsetup
Now type xcopy X:\i386 *.*
When it's done copying the files to your HD.
Remove the win2k cd and the boot disk and reboot your machine.
When you see the C:\> type cd C:\i386
You should see C:\>i386
Now type winnt32 or just the winnt
Win2k will now install to your HD.
After win2k is done with the install ,go into NotePad
and make a new text file called "win2k Product ID"
put you key number in that file for safe keeping.
Note*****
When you install win2k besure to put in the passwords when win2k ask for them Don't
just use the enter key and move on..
The 1st one win2k will askfor will be the Admin. password use one like 123456.
The next one it will ask for will be the USER ID and password, use your 1st name
for it like Tracy and use a password like 1234567...
You can always go back and use a strong password if you want to, like 1~2@3#4$5%6^
,this should stop just about anyone from guessing your password.
Just one more NOTE about Security
If you don't want anyone to use or boot your machine up with software "password cracking
software" unplug your 3 1/2" drive .
This will not stop the Pro.but it will slow them down.
and most of the software you now install will be from the rom cd disk anyway.
You can also help some one :>)
