I had the same problem u are experiencing. I would power ON the PC. The keyboard
light would come on; the hard drive LED would light; the sound of the power supply
as well as the hum of the CPU fan could be heard but nothing would show on the monitor.
I would check the video cable and the monitor power supply cable to see if they were
firmly inserted in their socket. Yes, they were and still no pictures on the CRT.
What I did was to swap video card inside my PC with another one borrowed from a friend
and bingo ! the monitor became alive. After two beeps confirming end of POST, a setup
window, a Windows 2000 GUI, the desktop displayed. To cut the story short, there
was nothing wrong with the monitor, floppy drive, hard drive nor the P3 CPU. It was
the video card which was defective. Tinker with the video card. If you have an old
PC, try swapping. If not borrow or buy yourself a new one and put it in---I am sure
it will solve yr problems. Affordable Forsa GeForcce 512 MB DDR2 PCI Express video
cards can be purchased for $40 at: http:///www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=VCD. It
could be a video controller. To find out visit the Device Manager via Settings>Control
Panel>Systems> Device Manager (Win 9x)/Hardware (Win 2000 and higher)>Device Manager>Video
Controller. If there is something wrong with the video controller/card,a yellow question
mark will show. Double-click the device after the yellow question mark and follow
the instructions.
