Explorer.exe error when selecting any WAV file

Recently, when I just select any WAV audio file, an explorer.exe error box appears, everything hesitates for a few seconds while the hard drive crunches, then the desktop briefly vanishes and then re-appears. The WAV file doesn't open. This is happening every time I just SELECT a WAV -- any WAV. The wording in the box (with a large exclamation mark in yellow triangle): 'PROGRAMME ERROR -- Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the programme. An error log in being created.' a) Where would this log be? b) Why is this happening? c) What to do? I have 2000 & SP3 installed. Any ideas? Thanks.
