I suggested downloading the "full" version and keeping it on a CD because then you've got all the components at hand. The download link needs an open Internet connection all during the installation/repair. It looks at your current IE installation, then goes out and gets the individual components you need from one of Microsoft's servers. It may need to make several calls for several different components. If any one of the individual downloads fails or downloads only partially, you end up with another corrupted installation. When all your installer files are on one CD, you eliminate the Internet variable completely.
