Fairly simple really.
Windows 2000
Ie4_01
Ie4_128
Ie401sp2
Ie5
Ie501sp2
Ie6
This sorts on an individual character basis. 4 comes before 5 which comes before
6. So the 401 entry appears where it does because of the "4" in "401"
Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003
Ie4_01
Ie4_128
Ie5
Ie6
Ie401sp2
Ie501sp2
In the above example however ENTIRE numbers are interpreted within the filename,
so 401 is higher than 6 so it comes after 6, 501 is higher than 401 so it comes last.
Hope this helps.
Actually Im glad you asked this question cos it may explain a similar problem I had
a few months back with files not appearing in the sort order I expected.
I rarely return to a problem once I've answered it so make sure you clearly define
what the trouble is.
