'My Computer' and other Windows apps cause immediate system re-start.

Back again, unfortunately. When I open IE, My Computer, Recycling Bin, or any system file, my computer will automatically re-start on me. My network connection became flaky, so I turned off the connection momentarily to let it rest. Yet I cannot turn it back on, since accessing system files is seemingly impossible. The strangest part about this is, I can browse through files (to a degree) by going through my iTunes and clicking on 'Add Files to Library.' I am completely clueless about what to do, in terms of fixing the re-start problem, re-establishing network connection, and just getting everything back on track to how it once was, since this will be my lifeline for the coming school year...
