how to increase network timeout for internet use

I use Firefox3 and when I open up several Firefox windows (each with many tabs/websites), 
most of the tabs/websites timeout and I have to manually retry each one to get it 
to connect to it's website.

It was suggested that I increase the network timeout parameter(s) that affect this, 
but I don't know how to do this.  Can someone help with this...
