Try the cables and chkdsk /r first. Other things to try:

1. Move your swap file to a different drive (preferably to the other channel).
2. Disable all ACPI (power saving) functions (bios and win).
3. Resource conflicts. Failing RAM.
4. Some forums suggest "Disable "System caching" in BIOS", but I don't see how that 
would be a cause. Simple enough to check, though.
