@Dex - Sorry, I think I'm missing something [:(  I have noticed that chkdsk in W2K 
is different from W9x -- one of them is I can't easily chkdsk on the fly!  BTW, I 
should have mentioned I use NTFS on both drives.

@Steve - I have had my suspicions about the drive.  I bought two of them, the first 
saw duty on my old W98SE box, but I put it back in the wrapper and used this one 
from basically brand new in this box when I bought it.  Naturally I formatted the 
disk while installing the OS on C:.  I installed Adenix SMART Explorer to monitor 
my drive health, and it shows no problems.
