Good post.. :>)
You didn't say how old the Laptop is ?
Batterys don't last forever and when they can't hold the charge it's a sure sign
they are going bad..
Replace the battery...
You may want to try the links below for some help.
One more note ,win2k comes with a good battery check system you may want to use it
over the IBM one. that maybe the error you are getting, two programs trying to do
the same job, and it looks like that's the error (runtime) trying to use the same
memory address.

Definitions of runtime
The period of time during which a program is being executed, as opposed to compile
time or load time.
Can also refer to the runtime environment, which designates the set of conventions
that arbitrate how software is generated into executable code, how code is mapped
into memory, and how functions call one another.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply and advice!
The laptop is almost 3 years old but I would have thought modern day batteries lasted
a lot longer than 3 years or maybe not?!
How would I be able to do the battery check system on Win2k ? I have searched for
it in the Win2k help section but I haven't found anything, all the results come up
with are battery management options which are just how I change power options e.g.
standby and hibernate. Do I have to download the checker from somewhere or how would
I access it, please?
Anyway, thank you again for your advice, I really appreciate it and if you could
give me anymore on the above, I would be really grateful! It may just be that I need
a new battery I guess but if I can get a battery health checker tool, that would
be really useful in the future as well.
Thanks :D

Sue
Sorry I forgot that it only comes with XP (the battery meter for Laptops)
But
Here are some links that should work on your machine..

Free ones below

-----------------------
The key to keep your battery in good shape..
Don't let it go dead, it's call Deep Cycle.
When it needs to be charged from dead ,it will take 10% of the battery life away
ea. time.
Hope this helps
