no fix for "connection that is not secure"

I am constantly getting pop up warning message "you are about to be redirected to a connection that is not secure..." I have unchecked the box in "Internet Options/Advanced/Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode". I have searched on the net and found references to this problem for Windows XP but the registry fix that is listed on the Microsoft pages does not mention Win 2000 at all. Win2000 and XP are similar so I tried the reg fix but that did not work. I have since removed the registry entires I created for that fix but I am still stuck with this annoying pop up every time I check my mail for every account on Google.

Does it happen with FIREFOX or OPERA?

Thanks for getting back to me. No, just IE. Sorry, I should have stated that. Actually, I started using FF because of this problem. It just won't go away. It is not a site related issue. It is Internet Explorer and this problem is well known for XP users, but I am using win 2K and can't find anyone else in the world who has this problem (so far anyway). I wonder if it might be because I use Office XP on my win 2k machines but it is supposed to be compatible with win 2k and I have been using it for years that way. BTW, this is happening on all three machines I have but all three have the same basic set up.

If you go to 'system info'/tools/windows. there's a tool there that MAY do something for you...'file system verification' Start it anyway, it won't do any harm. Before you do that, go back and recheck the 'warn if changing' in IE options. Post back and let us know.

Thanks for you help Jim. I think I located the tool you were talking about at "Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Tools/Windows/File Signature Verification Utility". After running this I get three files without signatures: oem0.inf 8/18/2004 None Not Signed N/A j2gjkm42.dll 7/14/2006 0.2.0.0 Not Signed N/A j2gjum42.dll 7/14/2006 0.2.0.0 Not Signed N/A I doubt they have anything to do with this problem. I have checked the "Internet Options/Advanced/Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode" once again and this is unchecked.

One other thing you might try...Go to 'Services' and turn off IPSEC policy agent. It may do the job.

No, that didn't work, Jim, but thanks for the help anyway. Doesn't anyone else have this problem with Win2K and IE 6?

Seems I'm the only one home! One final thing Robert, then I'll have to admit defeat..... Do you have a firewall installed? if so, try turning it off for now and see what happens. They can really do strange things to a chap's brain. Be assured, that one of the other lads will respond soon, the weekends are a bit slow sometimes. Finally, finally, do a complete system scan, that never hurts. Best of luck.

No luck there either Jim. Still get the popup. A complete system scan for viruses (I assume that is what you mean) takes about 12 hours on this machine but I did one just last week and found nothing. No spyware, no, adware, no viruses. This problem has existed for many years so I am pretty sure it is not a virus of any kind.

Thanks for the promising post Maureen. Unfortunately, it only explains how Web site developers can code their sites to avoid this bug in IE. It doesn't give any info about how users can get rid of the bug.

Hi Robert, I'll ask DEX to have a look at your problem tomorrow (mon) Normally, I don't think that he'd go back to look, with so many threads, but I'll ask him if he wouldn't mind, so, hang in there. Cheers.

Still doesn't work. No matter what I do I still get the warning message. I don't think this warning message has to do with whether the site is trusted or not. Even if I set a site as trusted, and even if this bug did not exist, I would still get the warning message if the "Warn when changing between secure and nonsecure sites" is checked.

I am not sure what you mean by "the repair items listed." I assume you mean run all repair items using the repair module but I have done this so many times i can count. I am afraid at this point I cm going to give up (again, for the past time) One of the machines this is happening on is a brand new installation. The problem does not exist until I install Office XP. That is the way it has been for several years now. I can find nothing on the net about this (except in relation to WinXP) and I am just going to have to use FireFox which is not a bad thing at all. But this bug still bugs me. :)

I am running Windows 2000 with Office XP. This configuration is fine according to Microsoft. I have been running it this way for years and never had a problem... expect for this.
