wouldnt shut down hung on desktop so shut off compaq desktop .rebooted "compaq" screen comes up only no startup doesnt show f8 to go to safemode.. I have the w2k install cd .but have absolutely no idea what to do..thankfully its a spare so no biggie but like it thanks.Robert

sorry forgot to add..I put 2k install cd in..turned on pc but nothing happened..think my cd driver doesnt work..never used it..

Can you get into BIOS? Look for a key press on the compaq screen -- or -- post the 
model number back here.
But...  it sounds like something died inside the pc. Try unplugging it for about 
ten minutes.

wowwww. quick reply Jacob thanks..yes I am not very patient was rebooting ever 3 mins..unplugged went out for the afternoon..came back..saw it loading went into safe mode..then restarted and came back fully operational..still hummmmmms. my bud says he will put in new hard drive..thanks again for taking the time to answer me on a Sunday..Robert
