AD Folder Redirection woes

Ok, so I've worked with AD before, Server before, DNS before, you name it. I've
never set up folder redirection.

I've googled to death here looking for howtos and this is the crux of my Annoyance:

Everyone wants to provide these grand organizational charts and high level documents
showing how it works and why its so great.

Nothing I've found so far shows a simple means of how to do it. I'm trying to edit
the group policy object and from what I can tell I need to make edits to the registry
through the group policy object. Folder redirects may be handled in another way
easier than directly pounding the user registry.

Can anyone point me to someone who understands that sometimes you actually want to
do it, not just contemplate how great it could be? Or is this a Microsoft technique
to get you to pay for their exams?
