Don't get me wrong.. Your suggestion will work just fine. My goal here is not to
criticize you. If my post sounded critical, it is because I am critical of the multi-billion
dollar software industry who turns out software with problems so obvious a 12 yr
old could've designed it better. Let's face it, this should not even be an issue
with software, if it is designed properly, and a domain environment should've been
the first things on their minds when they designed it. But, we are forced to use
it. I was not being critical of you, sir.
However, I am 2k3 administrator, and I have dealt with this problem a lot. And this
IS a Windows 2003 forum.. Which means you DO give advice that will teach someone
how to make something work properly without sacrificing security. I'm not sure of
the size of the business that is running this autocad application.. But an enterprise
of a hundred employees or so would be an absolute nightmare to deal with if you did
anything other than the group policy registry/file permissions I talked about.
So, yes, there are multiple ways to solve this problem.. The least technical solution
is to just add every user to the local admin group... It is not the easiest method.
If you want to avoid finding out which registry/file permissions you need, then
use the AutocadUsers group and give just that group admin permissions on the local
PC.. After doing this once, you can then add or remove users from the AutoCad users
group on the domain controller and not have to keep administering the local PCs.
The forum is here to learn from, in the future you will know the proper way to solve
the problem if someone asks. A little research will save a lot of work and headaches.
Please let us know which version of AutoCad you are using.. I may be able to find
the information for you.
BTW, 2004 and later of AutoCad has the problem fixed from what I am finding.
