Long time updating Group Policy on server

When I make changes to the domain controller security policy, or the domain security
policy, it takes forever to finally update on the domain controller..
I've even tried gpupdate, and gpupdate /force... It just wont change.. I have no
idea when it finally does, but eventually it does.. Anyone know why?
