Thanks very much for the response, Apple; apologies for the delay in replying. I
think you must be right when you say that something is interfering with or refreshing
the screen; I've now seen that tool-tips and other fly-outs are similarly disappearing
after a split second, so it looks like something low-level has been affected, although
I can't think how.
I took your advice and disabled all non-Microsoft services on start-up ... but sadly
the ALT-Tab problem is still there when I open a few applications. I also noticed
a message from msconfig (when I was disabling the services, before the reboot) that
said "Access denied", telling me I didn't have the requisite system privileges for
one of the services, even though I am an Administrator; when looking back through
the list of services, however, all were unchecked (and none of them appeared to run),
so I'm not sure what I was denied access to ... is it starting to sound like malware
of some kind?
Any further advice gratefully received, and thanks again for your response.
Cheers,
Ed
