A very interesting problem. The first thing I would do is drop to a command prompt. Use the 'DIR' command in that folder and see if the filename is listed correctly with the 'DIR' command. Numerous times I have seen windows explorer display filenames incorrectly, while the 'DIR' command shows them correctly. Your problem sounds like it may be different, but in my experience, Windows Explorer is unusually buggy for it being around for so long. If the problem is only present in explorer, but you are still able to find the files and share them correctly then it may just be an explorer issue.
