Summary: small businesspeople, do not let Quickbooks support tell you that you have
to buy QB2010 if you upgrade to or get a new Win7 computer. The Windows 7 compatibility
center says that QB2007/8/9/10 are all compatible with Win7:

If you look at the Win7 page at QB support, you see that QB issues with Win7 are
really IE8 issues or QB's own pdf generator issues, and all are easily corrected.

Background: As a computer professional, I serve many small businesses and the one
software product that is even more ubiquitous than Windows or Office is Intuit Quickbooks
(they have about a 94% market share).
While fielding a new Dell for a customer yesterday, I moved one of their QB2009 Premier
installations from a retiring XP box to a new Vista Box. Had to call Quickbooks
to get the new installation registered, and in the process, was pointedly informed
that only QB2010 products are compatible with Windows 7, even though the computer
being worked on was a Vista computer and there was no mention of Win7 in the conversation
other than from the support agent.
I got the distinct impression that the support agent was given a directive to announce
this compatibility note to all callers.
Knowing that there are NO architecture changes in Win7 that would cause QB to be
incompatible, I did my homework and reported it above.
The real FACT is that Intuit has made a business decision to not provide tech support
to QB customers who are using QB 2009 and older on a Win7 computers.
