Hello, it's me again! I have a Compaq Presario computer and working on Windows 95, can you help?

I'm trying to download icons, everything I have seen is a "zip" download. I've no idea about these, I read an article saying they are hard to work with but I don't know at all what to do. They download, then they go to the Work file, when I open them it says it is not valid and do I want to add, I click on yes and nothing new happens! Can someone please tell me what to do with them next, I know the obviously answer, throw them away, but now it's really running me crazy, I would really like to use them! Can someone please help me? Thanks A Lot!
