Jerry, thanks for the reply. Can't recall anything that triggered this. A few days after the monitor went out and I just picked up another and that is why I am trying to get my wife's old computer going again. It appears all the programs are there when I start via safe mode but can't open any. Get access denied message. Tried a 98 version of system restore and 95/98 fix disc nothing happens. Floppy and cd drive seem to be working when discs are initially installed. Maybe I have a trojan but can't run adaware or spybot to see. Any more thoughts. Thanks Tom
