Yes she is correct on that issue. If it was working perfectly before then it should
after being re-assembled.
|But you think I should acquire this different OS and its

|inherently defective with ANY Win95?
Well there are different versions of Win95, A, B and C. A lot of accessories today
use USB devices which can be support with Win95 but it can be a lot of hazzle to
get working.
Win95 is 13 years old, Win98SE is 9 or 10 years old and for what they cost on eBay
its not worth sticking with the old OS. I bought a genuine WinME last year of eBay
for only £15.
|I'm interpreting that you're saying the dead monitor is
|about its installed software. Do I have that correct?
I never mensioned anything about a monitor Bruce. If you haven't changed the monitor
then it should work as it did before. If you be change the monitor then you will
find that Windows will startup but you will only have 16 colours until you update
you new monitor drivers.
|But installing a different OS doesn't sound all that simple.
Installing Win95/98/ME is a very simple operation. For Win95 you will need a bootable
floppy disk which you can get from Bootdisk.
You maybe better getting a WinME bootdisk. The only problem you have here is you
need a computer up and running to make a boot disk, you must have a friend with one
of those, and you need a floppy drive.
As for correct drivers then it should install everything as default. If you can't
supply any drivers it asks for while installing then just click the cancel buton
and continue. Once the OS is installed you would need to check the Device Manager
(right-click on MY Computer and select Properties and Device manager tab). Any item
that has a problem will show with a yellow exclamation mark next to it. If its very
bad a red mark. Each section is marked showing what it covers, Display adapters,
Monitor, Sound video and game controlers etc. You would have to see what drivers
are on the "software & drivers" CD, if not you do a web search for drivers.
|I hope I'm not being a bore. I really appreciate your help. Thanks, Bruce
No you aren't boring Bruce that what forums are for. One forum for Windows problems
that I would recommend is
Bleeping Computer
it has a lot better format that this forum.
