You can try other "Desktop Area" Display
Properties, but the available choices are going to
be limited by your computer's video card.
Settings like "640 by 480," "800 by 600," and
"1024 by 768" all produce 4x3 output (1.3) and will
appear horizontally stretched when you plug in your
16x9 monitor.
See if any of your choices produce a ratio of 1.6
or 1.7 -- like "1280 by 768" or "1280 by 720."
