Ran windows update and now freecell doesn't work

Ok, I know this is a really trite thing to get upset about, but it's not my computer...
I ran windows update on my girlfriend's computer the other day. It had never been
run, so it downloaded like 35 critical updates. After it rebooted, everything seemed
fine except for one thing - freecell doesn't work right anymore.
It doesn't draw the four boxes on each side of the top of the screen. When you move
a card from one of the free cells at the top, it leaves a distorted box of weird
colors where the card was. Also, most of the dialog boxes will no longer display
(statistics, the "do you want to move this card or this column" box, etc.). You
can still use keyboard commands to navigate the dialog boxes as if there were there,
but you just don't see them.
I copied over fresh copies of freecell.exe and cards.dll, thinking maybe one of the
two was corrupt, but the problem persists.
Normally, I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but my girlfriend and her mom play
freecell on this computer all the time and they're a little less than happy that
it isn't working right after something I did.
