Display problems worse than ever

Hello! Well, I had four vertical lines (1.3 inches long n .3 inches apart)
following the mouse cursor around, and the DOS screen was blinking.
Somebody told me to uninstall the video driver, reboot, install the
generic VGA driver, reboot and install the original driver. The thing is,
I'm not sure what the original driver WAS! The monitor is AT&T SVGA.
The adapter--which I uninstalled today--is S3 something, but I don't
remember the rest of the letters/numbers. Before I uninstalled the
adapter (or driver or whatever it is), I tried to print it out, copied the
screen into the clipboard (w the ALT click business), and saved it as
a *.clp file. Unfortunately, (and stupidly) you can't print the contents
of the clipboard. When I tried to retrieve the *.clp file I'd saved it was
blank!
ANYWAY, for all my trouble, DOS is still blinking, and the lines which
used to follow the mouse are now full length lines covering the screen
at 5/8 inch intervals!!!
All this started on the weekend when I decided to reduce the display
resolution to see if it would speed up the system any. But TODAY,
when I installed the various drivers and try to increase the resolution,
I can't do it!!!
I'm thinking if I could increase the resolution, these problems would go
away!
If anybody out there has any suggestions, I'd LOVE to hear them, as
this is driving me COMPLETELY bonkers!!!
Thanx in advance, Millie S
