Just for grins, do an up-to-date virus
scan,
if you haven't already, just to rule this out.
Did you delete a program without uninstalling it properly? Did you actually try
reinstalling that demo
you're referring to and uninstalling it?
The error is actually generic in that windows cant find the appropriate exe (program)
and not looking for a 'program.exe'. You might want to review your startup shortcuts
to see if you can pinpoint the reference as well as the load= and run= lines
in Win.ini. (I'm just tossing ideas out here).
What does the complete error message reflect (i.e. 'cannot find program.exe needed
for... what?)'
It might not reveal a whole lot, but every bit helps. You might want to also review
various MSKB articles, to see if one fits (I did a google search and there's several).

when I start my computer I get the already discussed "windows cannot find program.exe"
pop-up. It happens every time I boot and ever since I last defragged my hard drives.
It also tells me that it needs this file to open dat. files. Tried to install a demo
that uses dat. files and have had no luck (have successfully used this demo before).
How do I get rid of it?
