wm: your cable configuration may be the reason, but here's a few more "solutions"
that are worth a try;
1. click Start, My Computer, Dialup Networking, go to the upper tool bar and click
on Connections, Settings, check the box "Show an icon on taskbar after connected".
2. to complete the Network Connection Wizard, give the connection a name, select
"Add a shortcut to my desktop" and click Finish.
a Network Connection icon should appear in the lower right hand corner of the Windows
taskbar when the connection is complete.
then click Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Internet Connection Wizard.
then go thru the routines again; this should install the icon you are looking for.
let us know what worked for you...
