Or you can do this..
Reinstall win98se to i.e. C:\>Windows2 if you have the room on the HD...or to D:
drive if you have one.
But to restore the reg file would not be a good ideal.
It runs the machine and holds all the info for ALL the programs on the machine.
You can inport ( i.e. email address book, but take care with any email that you inport)
most of the items in to the new install but you will need to reinstall your programs
but you would need to do that anyway if you reformated the drive and started over.
This will give a clean install and when your done you can remove the OLD win98 in
Explore but don't do it right away make sure you have all the items you want from
it 1st.
Most virus programs will not cross over to the new install but that would be the
1st program that you would want to install like AVG to keep your machine clean.
Then the next thing you want to install would be a firewall like ZoneAlarm or OutPost
both free, see link below, for OutPost
Like most of us that's the 1st thing you want to try out would be the Internet after
you have it setup.
---------------------------------------------------------
Download AVG by Grisoft,Anti-Virus System,it's FREE,for single home users:
AVG Free Edition and get:
1.AVG Resident Protection
2.AVG e-mail Scanner
3.AVG On-Demand Scanner
4.Basic Scheduled Tests
5.Free Virus Database Updates
6.Automatic Update feature
7.Easy-To-Use Interface
8.Automatic Healing of infected files
9.AVG Virus Vault for safe handling of infected files
9a.Plus you can run it under DOS with 32bit format...
9b And it puts Norton/McAfee to shame.........
9c You will need a e-mail address to get you SN # to install it.
Download from http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
------------------------------------------------------
OutPost Firewall software
***see demo on web site, why you should have one running on your machine if you
go on the Internet/WWJ.
http://www.agnitum.com/download/outpostfree.html#
http://www.agnitum.com/download/outpost1.html free ver.1.0
http://www.agnitum.com/download/

(*) All recent Windows versions - 98, 98SE, ME, NT4, 2000, and XP
(**) Outpost should not be run with any other firewall software; running Outpost
with other firewall products can result in system instability (i.e., crashes) and
can cause Outpost to operate in an unsecure mode.
