in dial up networking, do you have more than one connection set? you might try setting
the computer to NOT dial up when it boots. then try connection from the icon in
dial up connection or one the desktop if it's there. I don't know if you mean you
made a new connection but you can try that. of course make sure all cables are plugged
in and the phone line works.
you can check the modem, control panel, modems, highlight the name of the modem (is
there just one?) click the 2nd tab which says more info or something, and let it
check the modem, may take a bit. if it doesn't give the modem info either the modem
has gone bad or is loose.
I've seen several modems that did give the info but had been damaged by a lightening
storm. that means a new modem.
