What type of service are you using, I have had to re-install my ISP's software.
Also, sometimes, you can goto Device Manager, check the modem there, maybe your
update wrote over a file that connects to the modem. You should be able to view
the files (once you find your modem), that control your modem. Maybe your update
killed the DUN files? Updating lately at Microsoft, lately, has caused a few
bad error's in others software(s), especially the DIRECTX 9.c.
Try Also, Scandisk. Maybe there is a file written over another (crosslinked)?
If you find error's with files, use
the SFC.exe in Windows system folder to replace bad files.
(system file checker).
