The reason your Freecell stopped working is that you received a new version of Freecell
with your windows update. The old Freecell worked with file kernel32.dll dated 5/11/98.
The updated Freecell will begin to load but never finish if that kernel32.dll is
in your C:\windows\system subdirectory is dated 5/11/98. There is a newer version
of kernel32.dll for Windows 98, dated 4/23/99 that will fix the problem.
Where you get your new version of kernel32.dll is up to you. I had a second
computer running windows 98 and there was this newer version on it.
To copy that file, reboot your system in DOS mode. You can’t do this in windows
as the kernel32.dll file is in use in running windows.
Make a backup of your old kernel32.dll for emergency. The have a copy of the
new kernel32.dll on a floppy diskette and overwrite the file using this dos command.
Make sure your diskette is write-protected to prevent a copy error!
Copy a:\kernel32.dll c:\windows\system\kernel32.dll /v
The /v will verify the copy is okay.
