A:\ is not accessible

I acquired a used Toshiba Satellite 1675CDS laptop for work, to be used for audio/visual
presentations. It arrived with a fresh Win98SE install on it. It has 192M RAM and
a 20G HD. The problem is that the floppy disk will not function. Everytime I insert
a disk and try to open it, after a few minutes pause, up pops a small screen that
says "A:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready."I have gleaned the following:
The floppy is (now) enabled in BIOS It uses IRQ 6 and there are no conflicts. In
Device Manager under Standard Floppy Disk Controller Properties it says: "This device
is working properly." The driver is "functioning properly." (Reinstalled as a
precaution) The registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\enum\ACPI\*PNP0700\0 Does
anyone have a suggestion or do I need to replace this drive?
