Thanks for your help on this annoyance. Since the drive apparently is not even spinning,
and the cost of repair/replacement is a bit steep, I think I will go with an external
USB drive for this laptop. They seem to be available in the $30-40 range. Most of
the time the folks come in with their presentation on CD or a Flash Drive. I just
need to be covered for the few times we are handed a Floppy Disk to use.
