Try to setup the network manually. For WINXP SP2 try this procedures: 1. Right-click My Network Places>Properties> you should see the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION, right-click on it and select properties again. In GENERAL TAB, select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click properties button below. In GENERAL TAB AGAIN, select USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.1 SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: DNS: Click OK: close all open properties... Right Click MY COMPUTER>Properties> in COMPUTER NAME TAB, click CHANGE button: Name this computer to your own, just make it unique to the existing network. But in the WORKGROUP field, just make it the same to all PC connected to the network. FOR WIN98 PC CONFIGURATION: Right click Network Neighborhood>Properties. You should see the Network setup dialog box. Select TCP/IP Click properties: select USE THE FOLLOWING IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.2 SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0 In NETWORK IDEBTIFICATION Name the computer again But in WORKGROUP make it the same WINXP WORKGROUP. Prepare the win98se installation disk and click OK. the computer must be restarted.
