"After 500 bytes xmit/recv" it stops.
That does not sound like a missing file or wrong version. That sounds like phone
line network or ISP modem problems. I would see that sort of problem after bad south
Florida weather for a few days until their equipment got fixed. Of course they never
"had a problem". If you keep trying and suddenly it works, but at a lower connection
speed, well ..........
I always had another site to connect directly with to check and make sure it was
not at my end or my phone lines. If it connects, your end is working. Line noise
will cause the connection to be dropped. It was enough to finally drive me to broadband/cable.
LT Win Modem? Do you have the version 8.30 drivers from Agere? This last version
works much better than the older Lucent versions. In Control Panel, Modems, Diagnostics
tab, select and click More Info button. If it still says Lucent V.92, then the version
will not be 8.30. You can download this much better version at Agere Systems Lucent/Agere - LT WinModem
driver.... ugh, well when the connections are working better. Or maybe have someone
else download it for you. Its under 1MB and will fit on a diskette.
