USB devices are not the problem if you have a DMA controller issue. Try to re-detect and re-install the drivers. Depending on your hardware, trying to upgrade to XP might not work. We don't recommend upgrading over a Win 98 system anyway. A backup of your data and a clean XP install are the best, especially when problems are evident.
