Before the disk or wafer batteries used in hearing aids got adopted for our use,
all kinds of batteries were used. A small cylinder shaped one that lasted no time
at all was a feature of several makers' boards in the 386/ 486 days, including Soyo,
I think. There was an aftermarket kit of wire, battery holder, and double-sided
tape I used myself.
It held two A or AA pencells, and they held up a pretty long time. The battery holder
was compact enough to stash in any convenient cranny inside.
