Don't worry about the typo, we quessed what you really meant anyway. Symptoms are misleading and help so far while well intentioned is not the answer you are looking for.

In the registry there are several styles of confering a parameter to an exectuable. This speaks directly to the use of "%1", or "%1" /S, or just %1. Only "%1" is correct for use in the registry except that for scrfile/open/command does one use "%1" /S - NEVER for use with notepad or regedit. Confusion arises from similarly written DOS parameters which sometimes need an extra 'layer' of quotation marks while used in batch files. At any rate, one or both your programs are using the wrong script to check for default actions for notepad and regedit, I would select "%1" and hope for the best. You can probably count on them getting it wrong and/or asking to fix it each time they run since they really don't know what they are looking for in the first place. Sadly that's only typical of some well touted software...
