#1 (and this is a big one!): There are no PCI-express device drivers compatible with
Windows 98, for any PCI-Express device (video cards, or other PCI-E accessory cards.).
#2. Very few mainboards with SATA had Windows 98SE SATA drivers. The ASUS A8V (plain)
made in 2005 that's in my Athlon 3000+ computer is one of the very few (another was
the ABit AV8, also made in 2005).
It wouldn't be a problem to build a new system for Win98SE, provided that you use
an AGP 8x mainboard with only traditional PCI slots (that has Win98SE drivers, check
before purchasing) and an 80/120 GB IDE hard drive as the boot drive. If you want
SATA you should use a SATA controller card, a number of those have Win98SE drivers.
Athlon 1.1 - 1024 MB RAM = 98SE (@768 MB RAM) & XP Home
Athlon 3000+ 64 - 1024 MB RAM = 98SE (@768 MB RAM) & XP Pro
IBM ThinkPad PIII 900 - 384 MB RAM = 98SE & XP Pro SP2
