How much RAM? Do you hear the HDD churning?
If you wait long enough, does it un-freeze?
What happens in Safe Mode?
What happens if you hold down the Windows key and hit "R"?
(Ctrl+Esc does the same.)[1]

Good man. Yahoo's database often lets you find more than Google's
(though Yahoo's **engine** sucks).

Control Panel ==> HARDWARE

Stuff just **being** on the HDD shouldn't cause anything like this
--without giving you a specific error message to that effect (nearly-full disk).
*This* is for software (Startup):

You can run it from Safe Mode.
[1] Win+R gets the Run dialog.
