Yeah. More and more folks are getting tired
of jumping thru the hoops of the closed-source payware vendors...
|I finally gave up, and re-formatted the hard disk and installed Linux
|(with OpenOffice and other apps) on each machine.
|I used Damn Small Linux for the lowest end PCs,
|and Puppy Linux for the more powerful ones.

...and more and more folks are (as you did) moving toward gratis and libre.
(Redmond won't be getting any more $$ from me.)
I'm still at the getting-my-feet-wet stage
(using cross-platform stuff and Live CDs).
