I think you should reload Win98. You probably can do this over the existing system
rather than loading it to a new folder or loading it to a cleaned disk.
A while back I found that a popular antivirus said it was healing modules when it
was actually deleting them. They changed the erroneous message but I had to reload
Win2K again. They did not have a provision for printing a report on what was deleted.
The manufacturer doesn't think to do the obvious: Load each compatible operating
system on a new computer. Then list the names of all the executable and library
files. Then when the antivirus has to delete a product file it would warn you that
you might have to reload Windows.
So since this happened after an antivirus run, I guess that's what happened.
You can also go to the Start > Run and key in SFC which will run the
System File Checker. That can repair damage sometimes.
