msgsrv error message on Boot-up

Hi
I have searched the Forum for information on my problem but although this file is
reported many times the circumstances seem different from my own.
I have just installed Windows 98SE on a PC with an ABIT IS7 motherboard. Everything
proceeded normally and the OS was up and running. I then loaded all the drivers from
the motherboard CD which required a re-boot each time. I had no problem until after
I had installed the Realtec audio driver. The files loaded normally but on re-booting
I first had the dialogue box saying the Audio system was being setup but immediately
an error message flashed up : "msgsrv32 caused a general protection fault inkrnl386.exe"
with only a "close" option. I therefore cannot re-boot into Windows to try any corrective
measures and for some reason Win98 will not even open in Safe Mode which has the
same error message.
Is there any way out of this problem . I wondered if disabling the on-board sound
in the BIOS might help!!
