First off, Windows98 is not an update from WinME.
Second, Windows tends to Dislike Downgrades to earlier versions.
Third, Since any Box made for WinME has to be newer than any Win98 machine, it's
entirely possible that Win98 does not have the proper Hardware drivers for the PCI
Bridge, They would be on the WinME CD, which I'm assuming you do not possess.
Go to the HAP/Compac Web Site and look for the appropriate driver for the PCI Bridge,
OR,
Use the link below to download and install Everest Home edition (it's Free).This
program will help you identify the PCI Bridge and should give links for new Driver.
