"Got any ideas on getting a copy of any Linux dist. that I can install from a DOS
environment? I'm new to Linux so simple explanation of what I need to do and where
to go, if you know, would be helpful."
I'm currently experimenting with Knoppix.
This runs even w/o being installed. It's a live CD. Just reset the CMOS to look
for the CD drive first and it will boot. I'm currently having a problem with it
remembering its settings which I told it to save on a hard drive. I'll probably
figure that out tomorrow.
And that's a neat thing, too. You don't have to create a partition for it. It will
work fine on a MS$ft formatted drive by creating a couple files (60MB and 100MB)
on the drive.
I want to find my way around Knoppix because it can be used as a diagnostic disc
to repair Windows.
Warning: I have version 5.1. The current version is 5.3. I've read that its splash
operation includes a voice talking to you -- but only in German.
Like Ubuntu it's a variant of Debian Linux.
