"Actually, they are EEPROMS (*Electrically* Erasable)"
I absolutely predicted you'd make such a detail adjustment to what I said. I decided
that I had to get a simple point across and my post was long enough and it was far
enough after midnite. Thank you. You saved me the trouble of looking up the details.
BTW, I didn't write my prediction down or tell it to anyone. Y'know, like Jeane
Dixon's prediction of Kennedy's assassination. You just have to trust me on this.
"You've reminded me of the old joke about the 2 guys pinned down in combat and try
to use a hand grenade by using an instruction manual..."
On my wall next to my computer table is a yellowed cell with Dilbert saying, "Alice,
a true engineer never reads the setup instructions." Actually I derive my inspiration
primarily from my hero, Homer Simpson.
"Make sure the power cord can't be bumped..."
When I did that it only took 30 seconds to maybe a minute to load the new program.
It's hardly Russian Roulette. Anyway this is a laptop. It can run off its battery.
I just read the instructions, made extra sure I was typing in the right thing, and
pressed [Enter]. That was followed by a big anticlimax when the DOS prompt reappeared.
"Was that it? Did it work?" So I rebooted and looked at the CMOS and sure enough
it was changed.
Then I released my breath.
