It should be obvious that Windoze is looking for the card's device driver.
Data that Windoze seeks is *always* in the Windows Registry.
I haven't a clue how the **time** element snuck into this,
but somehow the Registry is losing entries.
If, in addition to the *one week span* thing causing a problem,
you can SHUT DOWN Windoze right now
and you have the problem again when you IMMEDIATELY start the thing up again,
that would be a significant symptom.
(...and would make the temporal element a red herring.)
The only thing that makes the slightest sense to me
would be that (just before the 3-week hiatus)
you told Windoze not to _ever_ make any **new** backups of the Registry
then somehow nuked the entry for that device.
Now, each time you power down, that data is lost.
