Windows Protection Error

Can't start Windows 98 (except in Safe Mode) without getting a Windows Protection Error and a command to shut down. Went through all the steps recommended in the MS Knowledge Base, EXCEPT disabling all the device drivers. Naive question: if I disable all the device drivers (including monitor, keyboard, mouse), how will I be able to use the computer (even if it does successfully reboot)? Joel
