Thanks, gewg (and JmC) !!!!!
No sweat. Pass along a good deed. It'll find its way back to us.
Also, what is HTML?
:)
So, it's obvious there's a difference between not knowing how
and not knowing it's needed. 8-))
Despite the Webmaster's rep for being able to tell folks how to do stuff,

he sure botched that one. 8-|

My big concern is that IE is an open wound just waiting to be infected.[1]
I'm ASSuMEing you know how to keep your system clean WRT IE
so I won't harp on it too much.
I haven't enough room for a whole new browser.
8-( I'm ASSuMEing you haven't ever tried using Tabbed Browsing.
I'll have to use my imagination about the drugs, but ISTM it's like doing Crack
--you never want to give it up once you start.
...and I don't know how anybody gets by without AdBlock.
I'll give it one last try to get you off of M$'s online apps.
There's a scad of browsers based on Mozilla's Gecko engine:

Among Firefox's little brothers, this one is noted for lightness:

WRT disk space, you may also want to take a peek at this thread:

The good stuff starts several paragraphs down, notably at "REALLY get serious".
Plus, I'm afraid to uninstall IE
While it *is* possible to do that, http://www.google.com/search?q=ieradicator
you really shouldn't try. MSHTML (aka the Trident HTML rendering engine)
is needed for e.g. the Windoze Help system; other apps (written by bad developers)
call it *specifically* (instead of using the default browser). 8-|
b/c aren't it and Windows Explorer the same entity?
No. (M$ is nortoriously BAD at naming things.)
The file manager is EXPLORER.EXE
and the browser (the User Interface to the HTML engine) is IEXPLORE.EXE.
The confusion was something M$ actually nurtured;
they didn't want their anti-trust conviction to stand (though it did anyway):

[1] 93%[2] of the problems with Windoze are related to IE.
[2] 87% of all statistics are made up on the spot. 8-)
